6/9/2023 0 Comments Geekbench 5![]() Don't even bother.Įdit: Since mentioned in another post. It's a synthetic, treat it like a synthetic.Īside: Ignore GPU compute results. The work done is the same, but how it is accomplished might be different. TL DR: The code is the same, the exact instructions may not be. Geekbench is broad, general, and has a few rough patches. Just don't take it too seriously if other benchmarks you care about more tell a different story. I like Geekbench as a synthetic with a slight preference toward GB 4 just because I'm more familiar with the scoring. ![]() Across architectures the results have value and are at the very least interesting as long as you know what you're looking at. ![]() It's not the end all be all of CPU performance but it's not useless either. Others like the HTML5 test might not match the expectation of "browser performance" since the libraries used there are designed to be embedded into other application and wouldn't have the same level of optimization in favor of being smaller and more portable. One would have a very hard time arguing that SQLlite, libjpeg-turbo, Clang, and LZMA are "not real-world" or "un-optimized". Some of the workloads are using real code that gets used by many different applications. macOS uses 4kb page sizes while iOS devices use 16kb pages which may result in slightly lower performance in some tests if they happen to have a lot of TLB misses. Since Geekbench 5 was intended to use more memory, other OS differences could have an effect. That could contribute to differences between operating systems. The workload documentation shows that Clang 9 is used as the compiler for Windows and Linux while iOS and macOS use Xcode 11.2 (Clang 11). The workloads are the same but obviously across architectures and OSs the exact binary will be different. It depends a bit on what you consider "reasonable". No unsubstantiated rumors - Rumors or other claims/information not directly from official sources must have evidence to support them. Low effort posts such as "What is _ and what does it do?" is not acceptable. We allow discussion posts on relevant topics to hardware there should however be at least background information and relevancy to demonstrate such a discussion is worthwhile. This includes 'What should I buy?', 'Does a _ do what I need?', 'How much is _ worth?' and 'How long until (something obvious) happens?' type questions. ![]() If your post asks a question about a specific product or need, it probably belongs elsewhere.
